Women Helping Women Fund grows

The Hunters give a donation to Dr Sook Yin for the
Women helping Women mammogram fund

Thursday,  February 9, 2006

The Women Helping Women Memorial Fund started by the Cayman Islands Cancer Society to raise funds for a digital mammography machine to be donated to the Cayman Islands Hospital received a substantial boost from Mr. and Mrs. Don Hunter.

The Hunter family made an undisclosed contribution to the fund. The family have been supporters of the Society for many years. Their daughter, Katherine, served on the Society’s Board of Directors and Mrs. Hunter, who is training to be a counsellor, will become involved in the Society’s counselling programme in the near future.

Dr. Sook Yin, Medical Director of the Society, said that the Hunters had read of the launch of the Fund and approached the Society about how they could make their contribution.

“This generous donation will significantly help the Society in meeting its goal of purchasing the machine by June 2006,” said Dr Sook Yin.

She added that all donations, no matter how big or small will be accepted. Early detection is the best prevention and the state of the art technology of digital mammography will help in the detection of abnormalities in breast tissue especially in pre-menopausal women with dense breast tissue.

For more information on how you can contribute to the fund you can contact Chris Carpenter, Chairman of Fundraising, Women Helping Women Memorial Fund or Christine Sanders, General Manager of the Society at 949-7618 or at 916-4344.
