a number of safety issues

Year One children attending Saint Ignatius Catholic School received an important lesson recently from community officer PC Alex Schulz recently, when he took time out to teach and advise them about keeping safe.
The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) officer gave a talk and answered questions from the 30 children.
PC Schulz spoke about the proper use of the 911 system and what is or is not an emergency. He told the children how police officers could have different responsibilities.
He told kids about playing in a safe place, looking both ways when crossing the street, and walking, not running when crossing the road, wearing seatbelts in cars and behavior on the school bus.
He also told the youngsters they needed to wear safety equipment when riding their bikes or skateboarding.
Following the talk PC Schulz said it is always a pleasure going into the schools and meeting with the children.
“No matter what kind of day I am having, being met by so many happy faces always picks me up,” he added.
“They are always excited to meet with the police and so attentive to what we have to say.
“It is important for them to understand the topics that we speak to them about, but even more important for them to learn that the police are their friends and are here to help them when they might need it most.
“It is essential that children learn to have faith and trust with the police when they are of a young age so that permanent bonds and good experiences can be established.”
PC Schulz said he is happy to go into any school in the South Sound area and speak to students on almost any matter.
“I would encourage any other teachers keen on receiving similar talks to get in touch,” added the officer. PC Schulz can be contacted on 916-6023.
