Jamaican athletes have set world-leading times on two different continents over the weekend as the indoor athletics season gets into full swing.
At the LE Athletics meeting in Leipzig, Germany, Lacena Golding-Clarke set a world-leading time as she took the women’s 60 metres hurdles in a personal best time of 7.83 seconds. Although Golding-Clarke had the slowest reaction time, she managed to make up enough time by the second hurdle to take the lead, eventually beating reigning 100 metre hurdles World Champion Michelle Perry of the USA into second place.
At the same meeting, Jamaican Davian Clarke won the men’s 400 metres in 46.31 seconds. Clarke. Germany’s Ruwen Faller finished second in 46.66 seconds, after passing Jamaican runner Lancford Davis on the final bend.
In the Tyson International indoor athletics meet in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Jamaican Veronica Campbell sprinted away from Me’Lisa Barber of the USA to win the women’s 60 metres flat in a world-leading time of 7.04 seconds. The time is also a new personal best for Campbell, who said that she is confident that, with her training going as well as it is at the moment, she will be able to run more excellent times as the season continues.
