Yassus Afari, Maxi Priest and Freddy McGregor, the three headline acts at the Cayman Music Festival held at the Lions Centre on 10 February did not disappoint their fans, neither did most of the local acts.

The artistes had the crowd on their feet dancing and singing along with every song. Yasus Afari, an old school dub poet, went over well with the crowd young and old.

Most of his work was about bringing back the unity between Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.

Next on the line up of international artistes was Maxi Priest who made a grand entrance with hit song ‘A little more longer’.

His performance lasted about an hour. One hour of non-stop action on the stage and off the stage as he jumped off the stage onto the floor to interact with the patrons. On several occasions he brought out veteran deejay Red Fox to perform alongside him.

The man of the hour Freddy McGregor, who’ll turn 50 in a few months, showed no sign of his age in his performance. He had promised to come off stage when his shirt was fully drenched with his sweat.

It was not until after 3:00 am that he declared that his shirt was soaked and ended his performance with a song with his fellow performers Yassus Afari, Anju Priest (Maxi’s cousin) and Impulz Band.

The local acts did well on the stage too. Lion Asade, Notch, Mr Positive, Little Pinch, Jameset, Black Face, and Michelle T did themselves proud.
Okonko, Jah Shawn, Ali-B, and Lani and others were also well appreciated by the crowd who cheered them loudly for their efforts.

The Cayman Music Festival was organised by Life Line Promotions with title sponsors being Western Union and Hot 104.1.

MCs for the night were Deon Mattis of Vibe and Orville from Hot 104.1FM.
