Sports Person of the Week

Sharon Collins

Friday,  March 3, 2006

When not working as a sales rep for Motor World, Sharon Collins lives and breathes football.

She started out playing the game in Jamaica many years ago, but has spent the last 13 years in the Cayman Islands, and it is here that her involvement in football has really blossomed. From being a player, Collins has progressed to be involved in many other levels of the game.

In 2001, she became involved as an official, which makes her one of the few female match officials in Cayman. Her involvement on the sidelines goes well beyond officiating, as she is also the coach of the Elite FC under 17 girls team. Under her leadership, the team has become one of the top teams in the league.

When asked how she spends her free time, Collins does not need to think twice before answering.

“Well, it certainly involves football!,” she says with a smile, before rushing off to yet another football match.
