Sprucing up the pet population

Pets get plenty of attention

Plenty of suds for a shiny coat

Just a little trim around the sides

All the fun of the dog salon

Holding some of the pets down for their beauty
treatment took a few hands

Thanks to the Cayman Islands Humane Society there are a lot more glossy-looking, clean-smelling and fluffed-up pouches on Grand Cayman after volunteers held a community Dog Wash on Sunday 5 March.
The venue was generously provided by Marleine and Alain, proprietors of the Turtle Nest Inn, Bodden Town, where the parking lot was brim full of dogs and puppies receiving the full ‘spa’ treatment from the Humane Society and Islands Veterinary Services volunteers - starting with a groom and brush followed by a full wash and rinse, moving on to nail clipping and finally a dewormer and plenty of treats.
Maggie Baldino, Animal Welfare Officer, was on hand to give out free Department of Agriculture dog license tags to those who needed them, and many dogs went away proudly sporting brand new collars.
A total of 28 dogs were bathed with many owners taking the offer of a free spay or neuter for their pets, making them healthier and helping to reduce the serious problem of pet overpopulation.
If any member of the public would like financial assistance to spay and neuter their pets, they are advised to contact the Cayman Islands Humane Society on 949 1461.
