The High School students of St Ignatius had a chance to show that they can perform outside the classroom as well as in, when the school held its Sports Day on Thursday 9 March.
The event was held at the Truman Bodden Stadium from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, with students making full use of the opportunity to get out of the classroom and out into the open air.
The day was marked by a number of excellent performances, including many new school records, but the most important competition of the day was the Inter-house competition. With the outcome still in the balance, the Inter-house relays that closed off the meeting could still shuffle the standings, especially as there were double points on offer for the relays.
Every win was greeted with cheers by the teammates of the winners, while the disappointment was clear on the faces of the other houses. With five bonus points on offer for each new school record, athletes also pushed the limits all the way, hoping to give their house the edge it needed to take the competition.
When the scores had been tallied, St Matthew finished in fourth place, with St Luke taking third. The battle for first place was extremely close, but eventually St John had to settle for second, giving the victory to St Mark by the narrowest of margins.
