Royal Bank of Canada conquered Bank of Butterfield 14-13 in Girl'sFast Pitch League at the Field of Dreams recently.
It was the first rematch of the season.Butterfield started the game with three runs in the first inning.While RBC answered with four of their own to set the stage fora nail biting game.
The second inning remained scoreless withgood defense demonstrated on both teams. Jessica Ebanks scoredfor Butterfield in the top of the third while the top of RBC'sbatting order came back with four runs. To take the lead 8-4.
However, Butterfield chiseled away at RBC'slead in the fourth inning, adding two runs from the bottom oftheir batting order. RBC was able to add two of their own, fromJessica Hurlston and Natalie Richards, when Richards powered hersecond home run of the game.
Nevertheless, Butterfield scored four moreruns in the top of the fourth inning on two hits and one defensiveerror, with aggressive base-running.
RBC continued to seesaw throughout the matchwith two runs of their own from three hits, including the thirddouble from M.Ebanks, bringing the game to a 12-10 scoreline favouringRBC.
Butterfield displayed tenacity in the sixthinning closing the gap to one run from Brittany Kellett, whileRBC's Samantha Powell assisted her team's effort for a 13-11 totalat the end of the sixth inning.
The seventh inning proved a heart stopperas Butterfield closed the gap entirely tying the game 13-all capitalizingon RBC errors. Risky base, running saw Richards tapped out atsecond base after getting on base for her fourth time. ShivonneSeymour had a hit, which got her to first base, then she advancedto second on a hit by M. Ebanks. She was batted in on a hit byLori Morcrieffe to end the game victorious for RBC at the bottomof the seventh, with two outs.
