Two "Firsts"Celebrated for Cayman Brac Post Office
On Saturday 21 April 2001, the Minister for Planning, Communicationsand Works, the Hon. Kurt Tibbetts, will unveil "Cayman Brac- Nature's Paradise," the first stamp issue based on CaymanBrac, featuring the first Nature Tourism Heritage Project.
The set celebrates some of the heritageand natural attractions of Cayman Brac. It includes six stamps,as well as, a first day cover exhibiting each stamp and the plaqueshowing the life history of the Brown Booby, the endemic BracParrot and the ecology of the coast and wetlands.
The stamps depict photos taken by photographer,Patricia Bradley. They include:
15 cent Red Mangrove
20 cent Peter's Cave
25 cent Bight Road
30 cent The Westerly Pond
40 cent Aerial View
60 cent The Marshes
District Postal Manager for Cayman Bracand Little Cayman, Mrs. Verna Banks, will welcome guests to theceremony, while Mr. Tibbetts will give the main address. Otherspeakers - who, together with Mr. Tibbetts, will be presentedwith framed stamp sets - include the Minister of Tourism, Environmentand Transport, Hon. McKeeva Bush; District Commissioner, KennyRyan and Mrs. Patricia Bradley. Postmaster General, Mona N Banks-Jacksonand Manager of the Philatelic Bureau, Sylvia Neill will roundout the speakers.
A similar stamp presentation will also bemade to His Excellency, the Governor, Mr. Peter Smith, CBE, athis office on 25 April 2001.
Stamps, first day covers, beginner's kits,first day cover albums, post cards and gift certificates willbe for sale during the Brac event. Guests will be able to viewthe Department of Tourism website at their booth and learn moreabout what is done to promote the Islands' tourism. Nature lovers,as well as serious and casual and present or potential stamp collectorsof all ages can also view the set on the Tourism website at www.caymanislands.ky.
Activities and attractions will includegames, a quiz with prizes, giveaways, a tour of Peter's Cave,quadrille dancing, a bouncing castle, and refreshments.
Ms Banks-Jackson and staff of the CaymanIslands Post Office invite everyone to attend at the Stake BayPost Office, Sister Islands Administration grounds between 10a.m. and 2 p.m.
