Omar Wright
Quiet and seeming unassuming, Omar Wrightis well on his way too becoming Cayman's best junior high-jumperas he proved garnering a bronze medal at the 30th annual CARIFTAChampionships.
Just 15 year-old Omar is clearing heightsof 6'2 3/4" a mere two inches away from his 17 year old CARIFTArivals.
Omar started jumping at the tender age ofnine under the guidance of Dalton Walton, now the deputy directorof Youth and Sports.
He says that high jumping came naturallyand he found that he could soar as he jumped. The other eventssuch as running were more of a struggle. So he turned his attentionto high jump and the rest is history. His training schedule runsfrom Monday to Thursday with hour and half work outs which include20 jumps and dealing with technique.
"I try to do the best that I can do.With God's help I will make it to the next Olympics," Omarstated.
Nevertheless, this Omar is not banking allhis hopes on becoming a professional athlete he wants to graduatefrom John Gray High School and continue his education to becomea lawyer.
