Seniors Citizens'Easter Party

SCommunion timeeniorsfrom all over Grand Cayman gathered together on Tuesday, 10 Aprilto celebrate the Easter season.

The event, a joint effort between the Departmentof Social Services Community Development Unit and seniors groupsisland-wide, including the East End Sunrise Cottage and West BayGolden Age Home, saw upwards of 150 in attendance at the WilliamAllen McLaughlin Civic Centre in East End.

People greeted old friends and made newones as busload after busload arrived from every district, mobilisinghelpers to organise additional seating. Rousing renditions ofold favourites such as 'Just a Closer Walk With Thee' and 'EverybodyOught to Know' were soon heard, followed by an inspirational Eastermessage from Rev. Randolph Turner of the East End and Gun Baycharges of the United Church.

Years one through six students from EastEnd Primary School were well received by the seniors as they wereentertained with a comprehensive programme of solos, poems, dancesand choir pieces.

The mood turned pensive as the Rev. DeeDee Hains of John Gray United Church, accompanied by Rev. Turner, gave communion to those who wished it.

A hot and welcomed lunch of turtle, conchand chicken rounded off the occasion and provided the opportunityto catch up on news and mingle.

The day was decreed an unqualified success,a verdict readily reached by both organisers and seniors - someof whom had not been to East End in years. Community DevelopmentCoordinator Gwendolyn Green quoted Proverbs 29:18: "Wherethere is no vision, the people perish." It was my visionto bring senior citizens together from all over Grand Cayman,"she said. Responding to her "Have we succeeded?" query, the seniors cheered vigorously, affirming their enjoyment whenthey heard the roll call of their districts.

So successful was the day that the organisershope to make it an annual event.
