Marks 40 Years of Service
This week marks an exciting milestone forthe family business, Woods Furniture and Design. They are sharingin the success of 40 years in business.
Woods Furniture opened in 1961 in a modestbuilding across from the family home in Pease Bay, Bodden Town.From that location, the Woods family sold both furniture and appliances.The move from Bodden Town found Woods in different locations withinthe George Town area until they built their own showroom on FortStreet. The furniture showroom remained at that location for 11years, during which time they decided that after 20 years in businessthey were ready to incorporate interior design services.
In 1983, Woods moved from Fort Street tothe Airport Showroom and opened an Accessories Division on EasternAvenue. In December of 1999, the Accessories Division joined theAirport Showroom to provide the convenience of all products andservices at one location.
"From our humble beginnings 40 yearsago, we have changed with the times and needs of our customers",remarked Phillip Wood, Managing Director." Our goal has alwaysbeen to provide the best quality merchandise, a wide selectionand availability, superior customer service and affordable prices.By combining the two locations, we were able to increase the convenienceand selection and decrease overhead and prices".
May of 2000 was the official grand openingfor the expanded 20,000 square foot Airport Showroom. Being thelargest furniture showroom in the Cayman Islands, it was alsonecessary to build a 10,000 square foot warehouse to hold additionalinventory. Having the warehouse has allowed the purchasers tobuy in larger quantities and pass those savings onto the customer.With more floor and warehouse room available, Woods also increasedthe selection, which includes quality home furnishings to suitall style preferences and every budget.
The most recent accomplishment was the January2001 grand opening of Kitchens & Baths and Flooring Specialists,two more divisions of Woods Furniture and Design. These newestadditions are located adjacent to the Airport Showroom and housedisplays of kitchen & bathroom cabinets, carpeting, varioustiles and much, much more. The talented designers that operatethe new divisions specialise in their fields and offer their customerspersonalised and professional service.
Woods remains a Caymanian family owned andoperated business. Mrs. Brenda Wood is both the founder and majorshareholder of all divisions. Many of Mrs. Wood's eight childrenare or have been involved in the running of the business. Today,Woods Furniture and Design is proud to offer one-stop shoppingat the Airport Showroom located on Dorcy and McClendon Drives.
