Burnout, aWhirling Success

The contest to determine the face of thisyear's national cultural festival was part of the annual JohnGray High School Burnout Talent Show. Judges scored the threecompetitors based on familiarity with local culture.

Also, two Burnout performers brought downthe house with an energetic performance of Yakkity Yak Don't TalkBack. Other talent categories included modelling, dance and drama.More than 200 persons attended the combined event, which was thefirst on the Cayfest calendar. Festivities will continue through13 April.

Miss Cayfest winner Wendy Miller performeda hat dance. Her duties include appearances at Cayfest functionsover the next two weeks and at Cayman National Cultural Foundationevents (CNCF) throughout the year.

Organisers introduced the competition tocreate an atmosphere in which young people are able to learn aboutCaymanian culture from their peers.
