More UDP ConstitutionMeetings

The United Democratic Party continues itsseries of public consultations on the Constitutional CommissionersReport and draft constitution, with a public meeting in East Endthis Thursday, April 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the East End Civic Centre.

The East End meeting is the last in theseries of district meetings on Grand Cayman, which began in GeorgeTown on April 8. Meetings were also held in West Bay, Bodden Townand North Side. This week's meeting was rescheduled from an earlierdate, as the Party leadership worked to accommodate all the variousmeetings and discussion on the issue.

A press release issued by the UDP states:

"East End residents can look forwardto an open forum to put forward their views on the proposed changesto the constitution and engage the Party's leaders in discussionon any aspect. Copies of the report and draft constitution willbe available.

At the North Side meeting last week, PartyLeader and Leader of Government Business, the Hon. McKeeva Bushnoted that the UDP had complied with the wishes of the peoplefor an extension of the time for review and that the Governorhad agreed to an additional nine and a half weeks before the debatecommences in the house on June 19.

Noting that public input was critical tothe constitutional review process, the Party says that it is encouragedand heartened by the many persons who have been attending allthese meetings and have made their contribution through questionsand comments.

The UDP is encouraging everyone to continueto review the Constitutional Commissioners Report and draft constitutionand to ensure that they pass on their concerns to their representatives.

Other forums for discussing the proposedchanges to the constitution will continue up to June 19. In thedistrict of North Side, review sessions will be held every Thursdaynight at 7:30 p.m. at the United Church Hall to examine the draftconstitution section by section."
