Kiwanis KeyClub Sponsors 3 High Schools

The Kiwanis Club of Grand Cayman is justifiablyproud to sponsor three local high school Key Clubs at Triple CSchool, George Hicks High School and the newly Chartered Key Clubat St. Ignatius High School. A fourth Key Club in Grand Caymanhas been sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Seven-Mile Beach atJohn Grey High School.

The St. Ignatius Key Club recently celebratedtheir Charter Night, Installation of Officers and Induction ofmembers. With a strong start and membership numbering more than30, many friends and family of the High School students gatheredat Loyola Hall to mark the historic occasion of the acceptanceof their Charter from Immediate Past President of Kiwanis Clubof Grand Cayman, Ms. Wanita Pilcher.

The Key Club of John Grey also celebratedtheir 2002 Induction, Installation and Awards Ceremony on Wednesday,April 10, with more than 25 new members. Summarising an outstandingyear of growth and service projects, the Immediate Past President,Samantha Dorman, handed over the reigns to incoming President,Leonard Lewis.

Key Clubs are essentially junior serviceclubs modeled after their adult Kiwanis Clubs, which are all partof Kiwanis International. They have their own Officers who areelected by the members, offering excellent leadership trainingopportunities. They organize their own fund raising events andperform various service projects in the community, in additionto the opportunity to broaden t heir exposure and meet fellowstudents from around the world, through travel to the Annual KeyClub Convention.

With four local Key Clubs, Grand Caymanhas its own division and Lt. Governor, Kim Fellman of Triple CSchool has served as an outstanding leader for these four KeyClubs. Kim will be traveling with more than 50 Key Club members(and several adult Faculty and Kiwanis advisors) from all fourHigh Schools to Orlando on April 18 for International Key ClubConvention. This is the greatest number of participants representingKey Clubs from the Cayman Islands ever to be traveling to Convention.

According to Kiwanis Club of Grand CaymanPresident, Mr. Frank Banks, "we are certainly unique andblessed in having so many Key Clubs to support here on the Island.We hope that more young people take advantage of the opportunitiesprovided through community service and get involved in their KeyClubs". The Kiwanis Club of Grand Cayman wishes all the KeyClub members traveling to Florida a safe, fun and rewarding experienceand looks forward to working with the new leaders and all of theKey Club members upon their return!
