Murder Victim'sFamily Received Death Threats

The spouse of the former prison guard, FranklinLake who was found murdered in his residence in Bodden Town toldCayman Net News that the family had received numerous threatswhich were reported to the Bodden Town and George Town Policestations, and these were recorded in the Police incidents books.

The widow and her four children from a formerrelationship there girls, 15, 20 and 22 and a son 25 years ofage, shared the home in Bodden Town with the deceased. One ofthe daughters confessed that she "is still scared".The mother said that despite her concerns made to the police,she was not given the type of protection she understood that threeother prison guards had received.

She did say, however, it was comfortingthat despite the grief of having to go back into the house inwhich her husband was killed, she was comforted by the fact thatthere was police cruiser parked by her house, which allowed herto get some rest following the ordeal of that fateful Sunday.

Around 3.50pm Sunday, 14 April the 911 EmergencyCommunications Centre received a call concerning the incidentand dispatched police and medics to a house in Spice Drive. There,the body of the deceased was found inside the premises.

The late prison officer, who pleaded guiltyto taking contraband drugs into the prison, was on suspensionfrom his duties at the time of his death. It is alleged that hewas scheduled to testify on behalf the Crown on May 2.

A 19 year old Caymanian male, has been incustody since last week Monday evening (15/04/02) and has nowbeen formally charged with the murder.
