The castand crew of The Statue

A Red Bay Primary year-five class will entertainthe Children's Festival crowd on Friday night, 26 April with asilent comedy entitled The Statue.

The gold-medal-winning pantomime revolvesaround misunderstandings that arise when a burglar pretends tobe a life-size statue that he and his partner have stolen. TeacherEarl Austin developed the plot and rehearsed the cast of six.

Working over two terms, Mr Austin put studentsthrough dramatic exercises to enhance their facial expressionsduring performance. He also encouraged young people to performregularly in school assemblies, where feedback was always positive,he says. Young children, he explains, have an affinity for dramabecause it channels their natural inclination to talk and move.

Before joining the local school system,Mr Austin was responsible for drama education in more than 60schools in his native Trinidad.

Friday's programme will also feature itemsby: Triple C, Savannah, George Town and John A. Cumber PrimaryPrimaries, Wesleyan Christian Academy and St Ignatius High School.
