Special OlympicsLaw Enforcement Committee Prepares for Torch Run

Encouraged by public support for its recentone-mile relay that raised funds for Special Olympics, the LawEnforcement Torch Run (LETR) committee encourages the public tosupport its torch run on Saturday, 4 May.
The torch run is also to raise funds forSpecial Olympics, says LETR Chairman Dale Ramoon, and the publicis invited to sponsor runners. Persons wishing to donate may contactPress Relations Officer PC Michael Cansell or WPC Karen Millsin the Royal Cayman Islands Police service.
Mr. Ramoon also encourages everyone to cheeron the runners as they pass through their districts on 4 May.A runner will begin at 6 am carrying the torch through Frank Sound,while another kicks off the West Bay leg at 7:30 am in front ofthe Town Hall. Both legs of the race will meet at Hero's Circleoutside the Legislative Assembly building around 8 am. From therethey will run with one torch to the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.
Mr. Ramoon invites the public to see thefinal law enforcement runner give the torch to a Special Olympicsathlete at 8:55 am at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex. Law enforcementofficers will attend the Special Olympics National Games immediatelyfollowing the torch run, assisting as volunteers in track andfield.
Referring to the one-mile relay, which washeld on 7 March, Mr. Ramoon thanked the companies, community groupsand individuals who helped LETR to raise funds. He notes, "Atotal of CI$2,382 was raised which will be presented to SpecialOlympics in a cheque following the torch run. We would simplylike to thank all who participated in making it such a success."Five departments are represented in LETR Police, Prison,Fire Customs and Immigration. The local committee is part of LETRInternational, to which an account of its financial records andevents for the year must be given.
The local chapter has a contractual agreementto give part of its fund-raising proceeds to Special Olympics.The remainder enables LETR Cayman to send representatives to theinternational torch run, which occurs every four years as partof the world Special Olympics, and to host events locally thatboost the morale of Cayman's law enforcement officers.
