Children Subjectof Special Focus during May

Spanning Grand Cayman and the Brac and offeringa variety of family activities ranging from church services andworkshops, to fun days and fairs, this year's Child Month celebrationpromises activities to meet every age and interest.

Families are invited to participate in churchservices centred around children on Saturday, 4 May and Sunday,5 May. The Department of Social Services, in conjunction withthe Department of Youth and Sports, will hold a special children'sday service at the Church of God Holiness, Red Bay on the 5that 11:00 a.m. An annual favourite, the Hands in Praise concerts,by children from the Caribbean Christian Centre for the Deaf,will be held in schools and churches throughout Grand Cayman.Their visit culminates on May 11 with a performance at the FirstBaptist Church to which everyone is invited. Last year's themeNurturing Our Children, Preserving Our Future so embodied theaims of Child Month that it remains unchanged for 2002 celebrations."Although the saying 'children are our future' is oft-used,it nevertheless remains true," comments Child Month co-ordinatorMaureen Jervis-Brooks. "Children grow according to what theysee in us, as parents, relatives, friends, teachers and membersof the community ­ that's why it is so important that we aregood role models as we nurture Cayman's children. Child monthserves to bring into focus what should be a year-round process.

"The events vary to focus on the spiritualand physical as well as the mental, so that the whole child cangrow," she adds.

Accordingly, Cayman's districts will hostpicnics and fun days, complete with games for children to enjoyand other activities will include youth programmes, lectures,workshops, sports events and child-focused church services.

Additional information on Child Month activitieswill be disseminated throughout May via the media, and the publicis also asked to listen to Radio Cayman to hear daily inspirationalBible verses presented by local children.
