Mr. Joel Scott, ITManager for the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism, presentsthe new on-line statistics information centre www.caymanislands.ky/statisticsflanked by Mr. Charles Clifford, Permanent Secretary Ministryof Tourism, The Hon. McKeeva Bush, Minister of Tourism and Mrs.Lania Rittenhouse, Director of Tourism.

The Cayman Islands Ministry and Departmentof Tourism proudly announce the launch of the online Tourism StatisticsInformation Centre found at www.caymanislands.ky/statistics. Withthe demand for accurate tourism arrivals figures, the Ministryhas decided to dedicate such a site to ensure the consistent andtimely release of all new arrival reports, effective the end ofApril.

Three primary objectives exist for the newsite: (a) Provide a user-friendly tool for DOT to analyse valuableImmigration data and make better business decisions; (b) Providean efficient system for DOT to deliver timely tourism statisticsto all stakeholders; (c) To automate labour intensive reportingtasks and minimize reporting errors.

Director of Tourism, Mrs. Lania Rittenhousesaid, "Sharing vital information with our partners will enableeveryone to make informed business decisions as we continue togrow Cayman Islands tourism. By utilizing the web, we will ensurean expedient and accessible mechanism for the delivery of thisinformation that can be accessed at your convenience." Shecontinued that the aim is to post the most current monthly arrivalstatistics to this site on the last Friday of each month for theprevious month.

Visitors to the new Statistics InformationCentre site can access current monthly air arrival reports; archivedmonthly air arrival reports from Jan 2000; year to date air arrivalreports; archived year to date air arrival reports from Jan 2000;hotel occupancy reports; archived hotel occupancy reports.

Footnotes and appendices accompany the releaseof all statistical data to provide a clearer understanding ofthe processes and resultant figures being reported. New data collectionand reporting processes have been implemented to generate allstatistics from the year 2000 onwards, therefore statistics reportedprior to this time cannot be equitably compared. Visitors to thesite are encouraged to provide feedback to stats@caymanislands.ky.
