Calendar of Events Update

May 10th 2003 will see the 500th anniversaryof Cayman's recorded history. A year of festivities is plannedthat will celebrate Cayman's history, culture and beauty. TheCayman Islands Quincentennial Celebrations will kick-off witha huge New Year's Eve event on December 31st 2002. With an emphasison the cultural, historical and social developments of the Islands,the festivities will continue throughout 2003 with a unique anddiverse programme of events.

December 2002
31st ­ New Year's Eve Celebration: This grand opening eventwill be held at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex. The islandschurches will come together to hold a service of thanks and praise,a dedication of the Celebrations and to welcome in the New Year.Similar Services will be held in Cayman Brac.

January 2003
1st ­ New Year's Day Public Holiday
15th ­ Launch of the Quincentennial $1:00 Bill For Legal Tender
25th ­ Art@Governors: This annual event takes place on thefront lawn of Government House and features displays of variousart forms from local and resident artists. The day is full ofentertainment, food, art and local crafts. Children can createtheir own unique works of art in the Kids Corner. It is a dayfor the whole family and one that should not be missed.
27th ­ Unveiling & Dedication of Wall of Remembrance:This wall will honor 500 Caymanians who played an important rolein the development of the Cayman Islands.

February 2003
TBA ­ Weekend at the Park: This event will include the annualorchid show which takes place at the Queen Elizabeth II BotanicPark. Elements of the weekend will include Orchid Show, launchof the "Celebrating Cayman's Flora and Fauna" colouringbook for children, dedication of the orchid conservation projectand an evening gala event.

March 2003

5th ­ Agricultural Show
19th ­ Satellite Exhibits Rotate: Starting in September 2002these Quincentennial Exhibits will be on display at a varietyof locations island-wide such as grocery stores and banks. Theywill offer a visual celebration of our history, culture and beautyfor residents and tourists alike to enjoy. Every three monthsthe exhibits will rotate.

April 2003
3-5th ­ Technology Expo: This 2-3 day expo will focus on thecontributions that technology has made to the Cayman Islands inour recent history, while exploring the possibilities and opportunitiestechnology presents to the future of our islands. There will beformal breakout sessions on specific technology topics and a specialday set aside for the educational/career technology needs of schoolchildren.

9-11th ­ Seafarers' Festival: A weekend filled with eventsthat honor our maritime history including visits by Tall Ships,classic yachts and other boats, a cat boat regatta and Seamen'sHeritage displays.
10th ­ Unveiling and Dedication of the Wall of History: Thiswall, located in George Town will encompass a "Milestonesin our History" display listing the key dates and pointsover the past 500 yeas and a mural entitled "Celebratingout History".
10th - Opening of the New Turtle Farm

5th ­ Reliving the Birth of Democracy: A period reenactmentof the historic meeting at Pedro St. James on December 5th 1831when the decision was made to form an elected assembly. Participantswill include descendants of those who took part in the originalmeeting.
31st ­ New Year's Eve Under the Stars: This closing eventpromises to be one that no-one will want to miss. The eveningwill include fireworks, dinner and international entertainment.
