Cayman Banks requested to provide update on any holdings of Iraqi Assets
In accordance with the powers conferred
on the Governor under the Iraq (United Nations) (Sequestration
of Assets) (Dependent Territories) Order 1993, a circular has
been sent to all banks seeking confirmation of assets held that
belong to the government of Iraq, if any.
"Action was taken at the time in response to the 1993 Order,
but with the passage of time, it is prudent to confirm the position,"
said His Excellency the Governor, Mr. Bruce Dinwiddy. "The
Cayman Islands will as a matter of course comply with any instructions
from the United Nation or other competent body regarding the disposition
of any assets required to be passed on to the successor government
of Iraq."
