H.M. King Carl XVI Gustaf King of Sweden visits Grand Cayman for scouting weekend

His Majesty the King of Sweden, King Carl XVI Gustaf, who is honorary president of the World Scout Foundation, arrives in Grand Cayman Thursday (24th April) to join HE the Governor, Mr. Bruce Dinwiddy and local scouts, for a series of activities culminating with a fundraising gala dinner on Saturday (26th April).
The activities, hosted by the Cayman Islands Scouting Association, will mark the 46th World Baden-Powell Fellowship Event, which will attract some 50 World Baden-Powell Fellows, many of whom began arriving on Grand Cayman last Friday. The events are part this year's Quincentennial celebrations.
The World Baden-Powell Fellowship is named after founder of the world scout movement, Lord Robert Baden-Powell, who wrote the book 'Scouting for Boys' which was published in 1908. Baden-Powell's subsequent efforts towards development of scouting resulted in the opening of the first Scouting Association in London in 1910. Baden-Powell Fellowships are awarded to persons for outstanding work in the development of scouting, or sponsorship and contribution to the movement. Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Scouting Association, Mr. Antonio Hawkins, is Cayman's only Baden-Powell Fellow.
Also attending the gala fundraising dinner at the Westin Casuarina Resort which begins at 7:00 p.m. with a champagne reception will be members of the Foundation's Board and visiting Baden Powell Fellows.
The Leader of Government Business, the Hon. McKeeva Bush, OBE, JP, will address the gathering and make a presentation to the King. Chairman of the World Scout Foundation, Mr. Suk Won Kim, will also speak. His Majesty the King will participate in promoting the evening's fundraising efforts.
The Governor, who is also Chief Scout of the Cayman Islands, will be joining King Carl XVI Gustaf in a number of Baden Powell events from his arrival Thursday afternoon.
King Carl XVI Gustaf's four days on Grand Cayman will be chockfull of activities. After arriving at the Owen Roberts International Airport and being welcomed by the Governor, His Majesty will be accorded a guard of honour by scouts of the Cayman Islands when he arrives at the Hyatt Beach Suites where he will be staying. He will later depart for Government House for a private dinner hosted by the Governor and Mrs. Dinwiddy.
Friday commences with an executive committee
meeting of the Foundation in the Tortuga Room of the Hyatt, following
which the committee will take a trip to Stingray City in the afternoon,
followed by a Baden-Powell reception, dinner and presentation
at the Garden Loggia of the Hyatt.
On Saturday the King will join Governor, leaders of the Cayman
Scouting Association and a host of scouts young and old
at Safehaven for Scouts Day. Events and activities include
Beaver Scouts lime and spoon race; three-legged race; Cub Scouts
catch-the train sack race; scouts knotting relay; first-aid relay;
chariot race; kite-flying competition; tent-pitching; steel band
playing; swing band music; and sailing.
During this event, remarks will be made by the Governor, Dr. the Hon. Frank McField, Minister of Community Development, Gender Affairs, Youth and Sports. Mr. Orrett Connor, Chief Commissioner of Scouts, Mr. Antonio Hawkins with a response from His Majesty, King Carl XVI Gustaf.
