Group efforts help the Cancer Society reach its goal
Cayman National's Stuart Dack presents a cheque for CI$1,120 in support of the Wall of Remembrance to the Cancer Society's Christine Saunders.
Globally, cancer is one of the leading causes of death, but research has indicated that one-third of all cancer deaths are attributed to lifestyle factors such as tobacco usage, obesity, poor nutrition and physical inactivity. According to reports submitted to the Cayman Islands Cancer Society (CICS), studies show that with early cancer detection and education, the possibility of cancer being prevented is positive.
In an effort to assist the CICS in their mission to raise the awareness of cancer prevention in the local community, Cayman National, OBM, The Machine Shop, Workplace Environments, Vision Marketing, and Key Club teamed up with the Society to build a Wall of Remembrance "Faces of Cancer".
Throughout the month of March, the Wall of Remembrance was displayed at Cayman National's Grand Cayman branches. Members of the public were invited to visit the branches to pay tribute to their loved ones, who battled cancer, by purchasing space on the Wall of Remembrance. Cayman National's Cayman Brac and Little Cayman branches also participated in the fundraiser by collecting funds, photos and messages, which were sent to Grand Cayman for display.
"We, at Cayman National, express our sincere appreciation to OBM, The Machine Shop, Vision Marketing, Workplace Environments and Key Club for donating their services to build the Wall of Remembrance," commented Executive Vice President Mr. Stuart Dack. "Without the commitment of the Cancer Society, local businesses and our staff, the Wall would not have had such a educational impact on members of the local community."
Over CI$1,000 was raised and donated directly to the Cayman Islands Cancer Society. In addition to the funds, the Wall of Remembrance gave the public the chance to learn more about cancer prevention and awareness through the brochures and leaflets that were available in the branches.
"Our gratitude goes to Cayman National's Board of Directors, staff members, customers and to all participating companies who helped to make the Wall of Remembrance become a reality," commented Office Manager from the Cancer Society, Christine Saunders. "Because of this unified effort, we were able to make a major difference to those in medical need."
