Laetitia Lainé Joins MRCU

Dr. Laetitia Lainé

The Mosquito Research and Control Unit recently welcomed Dr. Laetitia Lainé, their new Senior Research Officer.

Equipped with a Bachelor of Science, a Master's degree in Pest Management and a Ph.D. in Entomology, Dr. Lainé is well prepared to tackle her new post.

Her main objective is to develop and improve insecticide applications, including aerial and ground techniques, for the unit. However, she will also assist in planning and implementing control operations and applied research to ensure that populations of nuisance and potential disease-transmitting mosquitoes are kept to minimal levels.

Dr. Lainé is pleased with her new position thus far, "This is an ideal job for me! I spend some time in the lab but also get to spend a lot of time out in the field, which is important to me." She is also settling in to life on Grand Cayman, "I was born in France and have lived in several places including South Africa and most recently the United Kingdom. Grand Cayman is a nice change and I'm looking forward to getting to know the island better and learning how to dive."

Commenting on her appointment the Director of MRCU, Dr. Bill Petrie says, "We're pleased to have Dr. Lainé join our team. I'm confident that she will be a great asset to our department, so that we may continue to offer Cayman the best possible mosquito control."
