Five killed in raid on Kashmir TV center
SRINAGAR, India (UPI) At least five people were killed Saturday when armed Islamic rebels raided India's main radio and television center in the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
Officials say that three attackers and two policemen were killed in the clash outside the complex in Srinagar.
Dressed in police uniforms, rebels detonated a car loaded with explosives at the building entrance. An intense gun battle ensued, killing three of the attackers. At least a dozen policemen were injured in the shootout.
More than a dozen Islamic rebel groups are fighting a 14-year-old separatist uprising seeking independence for Kashmir, which is the only Muslim majority state in India.
