ByRite Takes Revenge on Prison

It was a fitting climax of an exciting cricketseason. Byrite sports club led by national captain Michael Wightdefeated Prison sports club in the grand finale- Division 1 KnockoutFinal at the Smith Road Oval. At the end, Byrite won by 2 wicketsscoring 214 runs for 8 wickets to Prison 213 for 8. But it wasnot as simply as it sounds.

Byrite won the toss and asked Prison to bat first. Prison openedthe batting with A. Carter and D. Greaves. Carter was the firstto go with Prison score on 25 runs. Greaves was joined by L. Cunningham.
They batted well running quick singles with Greaves outstandingas he produced 2 excellent strokes for boundaries. The crowd washaving a great time as Greaves (28), Cunningham (35), S. Gordon(52),P. Barrett (34) and G. Tulloch (18 n.o.) combined to givePrison a reasonable score. Best bowlers for Byrite were D. Wight,P. Wight, S. Mohammed and I. Sookoonsingh who shared the wickets.Can Byrite get these runs?

Chris Wight ( crown prince of Cayman cricket) produced anothergem of a knock to give Byrite the start they required. Togetherwith Z. Robertson, Chris took Byrite to 104 before Robertson leftfor 29 runs. Chris was 13 short of another deserving century whenhe was bowled by Cunningham.

At 153 for 5 wickets the game was evenly balanced. Ruddy Powellturned the game in Byrite direction hitting 18 runs. He faced4 balls striking 2 sixes, 1 four plus another stroke for 2 runsbefore he was bowled and caught by Cunningham. The damage wasdone. D. Wight ( the ice man) calmly stroked Byrite to victory.

After 67 matches, C.I.C.A. senior competitions were completed.The association congratulates all the teams for an excellent season.Now its on to the I.C.C. Americas tournament in Canada (August5th to 12th) where Cayman is entering the international scene.The association wishes Michael Wight and the Cayman Islands teambest of every thing. Let us do Cayman proud!
