Caymanian Elected to Head CASC

At the 24th annual General Meeting of theCaribbean Award Scheme Council (CASC), Mrs. Katherine Jacksonwas elected the new chairperson.
The General Meeting took place at the Hyatt Regency on 15 Julyat the beginning of the 21st Annual Leadership Training Courseand Expedition currently being held on Grand Cayman until 6 August.
Mrs. Jackson has been active in The Duke of Edinburgh's AwardScheme for over 25 years. She was the Cayman Islands' first GoldAward recipient in 1975 and has headed the local programme since1989. In announcing her election, Regional Director of the AmericasDavid Clarke said Mrs. Jackson is the first CASC chairperson toalso hold a gold award.
Her three-year term requires her attendance at the InternationalCouncil meeting in South Africa in November and at the InternationalForum chaired by The Duke of Edinburgh.
CASC is the umbrella organisation in the Carib-bean Atlantic Regionfor countries that run The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme, or'The Governor General's Youth Award,' as it is known in the Bahamas;or 'The President's Youth Award', as it is called in Guyana andTrinidad.
The Caribbean Atlantic Region, a sub-region of the Americas Region,has two representatives on the International Council, the bodychaired by HRH the Earl of Essex, The Prince Edward, that overseasthe running of the programme internationally. Mrs. Jackson nowserves as one of the two representatives.
The young adults and their leaders who are here on the expeditionhave undergone training and will be exploring underwater and mappingthe Mastic Trail. Over 150 people from 15 countries are usingthe Stacy Watler Agricultural Pavilion as a base camp.
The expedition leaders are Inspector Daniel Lee and Ms. JanetDixon, of the Cayman Islands, and the deputy leader is Mr. CedricPhillip, of Dominica.
