Cayman's National Cricket Teamoff to Canada

On Saturday August 5th, 2000 the CaymanNational cricket team will be departing for Toronto, Canada, totake part in the inaugural International Cricket Council (ICC)'Americas Championship 2000' tournament.
This is not only a very historic event for Cayman's cricket, butit is a historic and prestigious tournament for all of the Americasregion. Apart from Cayman, the other countries that will be participatingin the tournament are the hosts Canada, USA, Bermuda, and Argentina.
This is an 'Associate' countries tournament, while Cayman is stillan 'Affiliate' country, and that is why it is so important forCayman to perform well. Cayman's development as a cricketing nationdepends heavily on their success in this tournament. This is newterritory for Cayman's cricket. 'It is an honour to be includedin this group,' says National coach Theo Cuffy. 'This is Cayman'sdream, to get an opportunity for its cricketers to be exposedto the highest level possible.'
This is a new start for Cayman, not only for the seniors, butit is very important for the youth development program, becausethe U-19's will be playing in America in 2001 in the ICC's U-19'samericas championships, and the U-15's will be in Bermuda in 2002competing in the ICC's U-15's tournament. "It is thereforeof vital importance that our seniors make a good start in thistournament, and show the world what we are capable of,' adds CoachCuffy.
The Cayman National team have been training hard for the pasttwo months, and have been under the watchful eye of Lisa Bostonin the gym. 'We are ready,' says David Wight,' and we are lookingforward to the challenge. This is what we have been waiting yearsfor.'
The squad, along with the Manager Bernie Bush, Coach Theo Cuffy,and umpire Courtney Young, leave the island on Sat. August 5th,to face new challenges and create history at the same time.
