For the past 25 years, the Cayman Islands Gun Club has promotedresponsible sport shooting and firearms safety education in theCayman Islands. Four years ago the club was joined by sponsorC. L.. Flowers and Sons, in an effort to create the summer shoot. It is one of the few competitions during the year that allowsshooters to display their talents in three disciplines of shootingpracticed at the club.

"We have members who practice all year for this event - thisgives them an opportunity to win trophies in their area of expertiseas well as compete for the overall championship," explainsclub vice president, Eddie McLean.

The Competitors will begin the day by engaging three stages ofaction-shotgun each phase having five to seven targets; the courseis shot against time so speed and accuracy must come together.

The skeet shoot entails hitting as many as the fifty flung 'claytargets' as possible. In the action pistol competitors will engagetwo separate stages of pistol shooting, again using speed andaccuracy to achieve the highest score. At the end of the competitionall the scores are combined to calculate an overall winner.

The Flowers Shoot-out is one of the C. I. Gun Club's four AnnualShooting Competitions; which also include the Treasures Cub Shootheld in October, the "Top Gun" competition in December, and the Internationally recognized "Skeet international"held in February.

The gun club president, Julian Lewis commented, "sponsorslike C. L. Flowers have enabled the club to organize more shootingcompetitions throughout the year.

Sport shooting is of growing interest in the Cayman Islands, andthe club and its members have been able to partake in overseasevents such as the Island Games in Sweden, the Hand Gun Mastersin USA and The World Skeet Shoot also in the USA."
