Cayman Islands Law School GraduationCeremony graced by Baroness Scotland, QC
A number of distinguished guest attended the event, headed upby Baroness Scotland of Ashtal; H. E. the Governor, Mr. PeterSmith; the Hon. Chief Justice, Mr. Anthony Smellie; the Hon. AttorneyGeneral, Mr. David Ballantyne; the Director of the Law School,Mr. Mitchell Davies; and Senior Pro-Vice Chancellor of the Universityof Liverpool, Professor David Williams.
Graduates of the Professional Practice Course from the Universityof Belfast Certificate in Cayman Law recipients were TerrenceCauderion, Julie OíHara and Buck Grizzel. Terrence Cauderionwas awarded the O. L. Panton Memorial prize, by Mr. Alden McLaughlinpresident of the Caymanian Bar Association, for Best Performancein this area.
The University of Liverpool Bachelor of Laws Full-time (Honours)Degree was obtained by Philippa McFarlane with a Class 1 passand she also received awards for the Deans Prize of the Law Facultyfrom Liverpool University which was presented by Baroness Scotland.
Philippa also carried away the Tim Shea Memorial Prize for bestperformance over the Honours degree programme, which was presentedby Mr. Charles Quinn, President of the Cayman Islands Law Society.In addition, she was also awarded the Cayman Islands Chamber ofCommerce Prize for best performance in the third year modulesby Mr. David Foster, CBE, President of the Chamber.
Angela Gallymore and Karene Gilbert were both granted class 2passes in division one. In division two class 2 passes went toIrvin Banks, Denzie Carter, Sandra Catron, David Dixon, MariaGayle, Sharon Morgan and Jacqueline Ziemniak and Class 3 passeswent to Mark Beckford, Andrea Bodden, Heather Carnegie, RashanthaDeíAlwis, and Gordon Panton.
Debra Drummond received a Bachelor of Laws Part-time (Honours)class 2 Degree in division one and she also received the BestPerformance award in that category. Mr. Edward Dí AngeloSilva, President of the Cayman Islands Bankers Association, presentedthe award to her. In that division also were Delene Cacho andEzmie Smith with class three passes. Forde Pierson received theUniversity of Liverpool Diploma in Higher Education.
Ms. Philippa McFarlane presented the student's graduation addressand Mr. Mitchell C. Davies - Director of Legal Studies was theMaster of Ceremonies for the event.
