38,446 air arrivals came to the Cayman Islandsin July 2000, increasing 2.62% or 983 people compared to lastJuly. This represents a net gain of 4,576 stay-over visitors,or 1.82%, for the first seven months of 2000 when compared tothe same period in 1999. Cruise arrivals for July 2000 were 58,271,a decrease of 18.89% compared to July 1999 'year-to-date, cruisearrivals increased by 2.04%, a net gain of 12,780 passengers comparedto the first seven months of 1999.
In July 2000, the New York and Chicago Regions, representing 73.4%of the 1999 US market share, respectively posted gains of 10.36%and 8.59% compared to July 1999. Year-to-date these two regionsrepresent a net gain of 2,192 people (2.06%) when compared tothe first seven months of 1999.
Arrivals from the Miami region, representing much of the southernUS with 10.3% of the 1999 US market share, have improved eventhough the region had been greatly affected by the booming cruiseindustry. July 2000 arrivals from the region decreased by 1.66%compared to July 1999 while year-to-date there has been a gainof .48%, or 166 people, when compared to the same seven monthslast year.
The Houston and Los Angeles regions, representing 9.9% and 6.4%of the 1999 US market share, showed increases of 5.51% and 14.44%,respectively, for the first seven months of 2000 when comparedto the same period last year. Together, these regions had a netgain of 3,131 people, or 7.22%.
All together, air arrivals from the USA posted a gain of 1,522people for July 2000 over July 1999. Year-to-date, 189,253 airarrivals from the US have visited Cayman, a gain of 2.99%, or5,489 people, compared to the first seven months of 1999.
Canadian arrivals into Cayman have been exceptionally strong sofar this year and continue to be heavily influenced by Ontariotraffic- the tenth largest state/province arrival in North America,which alone increased by 16.12% for July 2000 compared to July1999. Overall, air arrivals for Canada increased by 14.61% inJuly 2000 compared to July 1999. Canadian stay-over the same periodlast year, representing 12,662 total Canadian visitors to Caymanso far this year.
