Ministryof Tourism Scholarship 2001

The Annual Tourism Scholarship programmestarted in 1996 with its first recipient being Rosa Viola McLean.It represents an effort on the part of the Ministry of Tourismto get more Caymanian involvement in the tourism sector, especiallyat the managerial level.
It is designed in particular for studentswho demonstrate a financial need, and who wish to pursue a Bachelor'sor an Associate Degree in an approved tourism or tourism-relateddiscipline. The value of a full scholarship is US$25,000 per annumand so far 11 students have benefited from part or full scholarships.
This year no full scholarships were awardedbut three part scholarships. The recipients and with annual awardin brackets are Jermaine Sharpe (US$13,500), Ruth Smith ($6,500)and Randall Foster ($5,000). Jermaine currently works in the ITDepartment at CIBC and will be pursuing a Marketing Degree atthe University of South Florida.
A graduate of the Community College, Ruthwill be pursuing a Bachelors degree in Communications at the Universityof Tampa. Randall is currently enrolled in Louisiana State Universityin Baton Rouge, pursuing a Bachelors degree in Business and E-Commercewith a concentration in Tourism.
