SisterIslands Staff Receives Customer Service Training from DoT Staff

Various SisterIslands private sector operators participating in training sessioncoordinated by the Department of Tourism.

As part of its efforts to improve the qualityof service offered in the Sister Islands, the Department of Tourismin conjunction with the Sister Islands Tourism Association recentlyconducted four days of customer service training, July 24-27th,in Cayman Brac and Little Cayman.

Thirty (30) persons in the Brac and eight(8) on Little Cayman from both the public and private sectorsattended the course, which was entitled Customer Relations ForFrontline Personnel In The Tourism Industry. The seminar was heldat the Governor's Conference Room at the Brac Reef Hotel in CaymanBrac and at the Grouper Room at the Little Cayman Beach Resortin Little Cayman.

The courses were conducted by Mrs. AlmaMcKenzie and Mr. Ishwar Persad of the Department of Tourism andtook the format of classroom lectures, role-playing, quizzes andvideos. Participants were given an overview of the tourism industry,which covered the history of tourism, tourism definitions, typesof tourists, major destinations in the world, the tourism product,marketing the tourism product and the importance of tourism toCayman.

They then moved on to customer care, effectivecommunication, dealing with complaints and making the customersfeeling respected. Participants were then exposed to self-developmentskills including attitude development, self-esteem, appearance,and making a personal commitment to offering quality customerservice consistently.

President of the Sister Islands TourismAssociation, Mr. Moses Kirkconnell commented "The SisterIslands Tourism Association was very pleased to work with theDepartment of Tourism to help provide training for our tourismindustry personnel. Once again this demonstrates the importanceof our partnership with the DOT and how it works to strengthenour tourism product."

Minister for Tourism, the Honourable W.McKeeva Bush commented, "Training is essential to the tourismindustry and we are pleased that the Department of Tourism canpartner with the private sector to sharpen customer service skillsand expertise. We are especially pleased that properties on CaymanBrac and Little Cayman can also benefit from this training andhave taken advantage of these opportunities to improve their staff'sskills."

The Department of Tourism will continueits efforts to help improve customer service skills within thelocal community and work with its private sector partners.
