Leaders of Caribbean OverseasTerritories Meet To Prepare Plan of Action
In preparation for the Fourth Annual OverseasTerritories Council in the UK scheduled for September 28 and 29,the Hon. McKeeva Bush, Leader of Government Business, joins otherregional leaders next week in the Turks & Caicos.
They will be attending the United KingdomCaribbean Overseas Territories Meeting on August 28 and 29, todiscuss matters which will be addressed in London.
To be held at the Beaches Resort and Spa,this meeting is a gathering of Heads of Government and officialsfrom all of the Caribbean Overseas Territories to strategise thekey issues to be presented during the UK Ministers Conference.
"I am looking forward to the opportunityto meet with the leaders of the other Overseas Territories andto discuss the issues that impact on our common purposes of life,"said Mr. Bush, who will be accompanied by his Principal Secretary,Mr. Charles Clifford and Dr. Christopher Rose, Executive Director,in the Secretariat of the portfolio of Finance.
Although there are numerous issues to bediscussed, Mr. Bush said he would personally like to pursue threespecific matters which affect the Cayman Islands.
"The impact of the European Union'sTax Initiative on the Overseas Territories is a key discussionpoint," affirmed the Minister who has openly resisted theEuropean Union's Tax Initiative in the past.
During the meeting, a presentation by Mrs.Dulcie James, Director Financial Services Commission will be given.
In addition, Cayman's Dr. Rose will addressthe subject as well as Mr. Robert Mathavious, Director of FinancialServices.
Mr. Bush is also anxious to participatein a discussion on a sustainable development initiative. He saiddiscussions will open with a presentation on other regional matters.
Of particular interest to the Cayman Islandsare the pending Constitutional Reform issues as well as the lackof a Human Rights Amendment.
"With the input from our Caribbeanconstituents, I'm sure these issues will propagate much discussionon the need for viable policies and human rights for all,"assured. Mr. Bush.
Additional topics will include immigrationissues and the EU/OCT cooperation.
