Mr. Ramon Albergawins Photo Contest

Ms. PattiJulius, sales and marketing manager for the Tortuga Rum Company,presents Mr. Ramon Alberga, QC, winner of Cayman Net News' "AMemorable Look Back at Cayman's Past" Photo Contest, withthe gift basket grand prize of Tortuga Rum Products. The contest,which ran on the August 15th edition of the newspaper, asked readersto identify the late Jamaican Prime Minister, Michael Manley andCayman's own Reginald Parsons. The picture and the answer canbe found on Page 2. Mr. Alberga was at that meet and admits thatthe picture "brings back a lot of happy memories." CaymanNet News would like to congratulate Mr. Alberga, and thank theTortuga Rum Company for providing the grand prize. Cayman NetNews would also like to thank all those who entered. Artist Nickola McCoy received the firstMcCoy Prize for excellence in Caymanian art on Saturday August17, at the National Museum. Ms McCoy was one of 25 artists tosubmit their work in a variety of media that included painting,photography and fine craft. As overall winner, her award consistsof $1500 cash and a $1500 educational grant. Judges also recognisedoutstanding artists in inidividual categories, including Al Ebanksfor painting, Jennifer Newton for photography and Horacio Estebanfor fine craft. All entries will remain on display at the Museumthrough September 7. At the presentation ceremony the McCoy familyannounced plans to expand next year's competition to include awinner for fine crafts as well as fine arts.

Mr. MichaelManley is the third person standing in the back row, holding the"Simpson Shield". Mr. Reginald Parsons is the fourthyoung man from the left, also in the back row, standing next toMr. Manley. The photograph, which we featured in our August 15thedition, was taken in the mid 1940s. Former Jamaican Prime MinisterMr. Michael Manley is holding the "Simpson Shield",which was awarded to the Jamaica College Team after they won theInterscholastic Swimming Competition.
