Cayman NationalBodybuilding Championship

The Cayman Islands Bodybuildingand Fitness Federation (CIBBF) will be hosting its annual "Mr.and Ms. Cayman National Bodybuilding Championships" on Saturday,September 14th, at the Mary Miller Memorial Hall in Red Bay at7:00pm.

Eleven gentlemen will competefor the coveted title of Mr. Cayman Bodybuilding Champion in twodivisions: middle weight and light/heavy weight.

Mr. Gilroy Jouval will bedefending his middle-weight division title, whereas the light/heavyweight division has no defending champion.

Local fans will be happyto known that Kirk Kelly, a well-known athlete who has competedat the CAC Championships in the past, will be making his big comebackat this event after a ten-year hiatus.

Bodybuilding veterans ElonDixon and John Thompson will also be competing. Approximatelyfour years ago, Mr. Thompson and Mr. Dixon competed against oneanother at this exact competition.

"John Thompson beatElon Dixon by one point!" recalls Ms. Angela Sealey, presidentof CIBBF. Given the history, she says, it will certainly be interestingto see them compete against each other again.

Four women will be competingfor the Ms. Cayman Bodybuilding Champion title.

Last year's winner, Ms.Perlita Scott, will be returning to defend her title. "Sheis 51-years-old and she looks amazing!" exclaims Ms. Sealey.

In order to keep her title,Ms. Scott will have to beat recognized local athletes Agatha Broderickand Dominique Massia. Both Ms. Broderick and Ms. Massia have beenoff the competition stage for some time but they are looking todethrone the current champion.

If that were not all, fanswill be given a special treat as Ms. Jamaica Fitness 1999, CarlaYee Sing, will be gracing the stage as a guest poser.

The CIBBF has been hostingthese annual competitions since 1996. "Bodybuilding callsfor a lot of discipline," explains Ms. Sealey. "It bringsawareness to how you eat and live. I used to see people trainingat the gym, not really going anywhere. Our goal is to try to makepeople see fitness as a lifelong commitment."

The commitment is such that,after this event the Federation is hoping to take a couple ofathletes to compete at the CAC Championships in Venezuela on September24th.

Tickets are currently onsale at GNC, Gold's Gym and World Gym. Cost is $25 in advanceand at the door. Children between the ages of 6 and 12 will paya $10 admission fee, however those tickets will be sold only atthe door.

"We are hoping to fillthe hall," says Ms. Sealey. "It is air-conditioned,so people should not worry. It will be a great family event."
