Gemma Uses Miss Cayman Scholarship

Former Miss Cayman Islands Gemma McLaughlinleaves for university this week, taking advantage of the majorprize for any national title holder - a tertiary education. Gemmawill be studying communications at DePaul University in Chicago,and eventually hopes to pursue a career in law. She accepted thefinal scholarship presentation yesterday (Monday, 26 August) fromthe Hon. McKeeva Bush, Leader of Government Business and Ministerfor Tourism, Environment, Development and Commerce.
Gemma recently placed on the Honour Rollof the Community College, where she completed the associate degreeprogramme with a Grade Point Average of 3.59. Encouraging otheryoung ladies to enter the pageant, and expressing her appreciationat the opportunities made available as a 1998 Miss Cayman Islands,she said, "Representing my country has allowed me to experiencenew opportunities, develop greater self-confidence and meet manynew people."
