As the end of summer draws near, parentsand their children are preparing themselves for the beginningof yet another school year. With only a few short weeks beforeclasses resume, many parents are in the process of getting theiryoung academics ready and the hunt for uniforms and school supplieshas begun.
In an effort to assist the needy schoolchildren in the Cayman Islands, members of the People's ProgressiveMovement (PPM) have generously donated several bags full of schooluniforms, shoes, backpacks and notebooks to the Cayman IslandsStudents Association's (CISA) School Supplies Drive. These itemswill, in turn, be passed by CISA to the Department of Social Servicesfor distribution.
Mrs. Sandra Catron, of the PPM's office, noted that she was really delighted at the overwhelming responsefrom members of the movement. "It is quite refreshing toknow that we have such dedicated members in our movement who arewilling to assist the community in any possible way.
The response was quite impressive and ourmembers have expressed the desire to make this an annual communityevent for the People's Progressive Movement to be involved in."
Members of the PPM have continued to donatea variety of supplies and several additional presentations willbe made to CISA. Mrs. Catron was pleased to be able to join forceswith CISA for such a worthy cause and would like to encourageeveryone to support the school drive.
Operating on the concept of "it takesa village to raise a child", Mrs. Catron will continue toaccept donations for as long as people are willing to give. "Thisis a worthy cause that will make the lives of our school childrena little easier and I would suggest that people in need contactSocial Services to see what is available from the drive. Membersalso donated uniforms for private schools so there are a lot ofuseful supplies there ready for the taking!"
