Barbados Launches ChapterOf Investment Professionals
Speaking at the recent launch of the BarbadosChapter of Investment Professionals, the President of the fledglingorganisation, Glenn Cheong expressed pleasure at the positiveresponse from the jurisdiction's finance professionals towardsthe establishment of such an organisation.
Mr Cheong outlined that Chapter's missionas being to 'advance the interests of Barbados' investment communityand to maintain the highest standards of professional excellenceand integrity', and explained to those attending the meeting that:
'A natural extension of our mission andobjectives is that we would increasingly want Barbados promotedas an international destination which has a wealth of human resourcesin the investment management field, and which can therefore attractcompanies from wherever in the world, who seek to locate theiroffshore investment business in a country where they know theycan employ well qualified people in this field.'
According to a Barbados Daily Nation report,the BCIP President acknowledged the progress that the jurisdictionhas made since the creation of the Barbados Stock Exchange in1987 and the introduction of local mutual funds nine years later,but suggested that Barbados has a long way to go before true capitalmarket maturity is reached.
'Nevertheless, recent progress is pleasingand we would favour any governmental or private sector initiativeswhich seek to further advance the development of local and regionalcapital markets,' he concluded
