Ladies enjoy a good scrambleat BPW Golf meet

The Britannia Golf Course was packed tocapacity with lady golfers on Friday November 24 for the Business& Professional Women's Club's 2nd Annual Women's Golf Scramblesponsored by CIBC Bank & Trust Company (Cayman) Ltd.
"We are so pleased with the turnout this year," statedscramble organizer and BPW Fundraising Chairman, Ms Andrea Williams,who added that "many of the best lady golfers on the Islandparticipated this year along with many women who had never playedgolf. It was a great mix and everyone seemed to have a lot offun.".
The Links team of Rocio Segura, Nicki Weck, Carmen Manchesterand Patti Carrilo clinched first place and were each awarded alady golfer figurine donated by Waterford & Wedgwood Gallery.Second place went to the Deloitte & Touche team comprisedof Coleen Artuch, Nicole Chin, Anita Hill and Kerry Quigley, whowere each awarded a vase donated by Kara's Glass Garden. RosieDale Harris, Michelle Mogg, Madge Tompkins and Betty Wilkins finishedin third place and were each awarded a pen donated by CIBC.
Prizes were also awarded to the longest drive, closest to thepin and longest putt. The longest drive competition was won byKerry Quigley, who was awarded a signed print donated by KennedyGallery. Jackie Scott of Dresdner Bank Lateinamerika AG, whichhad sponsored four ladies teams for the event, won an antiquecoin donated by Truman Bodden & Company for the closest tothe pin competition. The longest putt competition was won by JoanDowling of Ansbacher (Cayman) Limited, who was awarded an antiquecoin donated by A 24 K-Mon Jewellers.
Every lady golfer had a chance to win a 2001 BMW 316' from GTAutomotive Ltd., on the 10th hole, due to the hole-in-one insurancebeing arranged by Britam Insurance Brokers & Agents.
It was reported that while several lady golfers came within inchesof hitting the hole, at the end of the day, the car was returnedwithout a winner.
Despite the award of prizes, the focus of the BPW Women's Scrambleremains non-competitive. "The object of the Scramble is toallow women of the Cayman Islands a chance to get out and havesome fun while at the same time helping us to raise funds forBPW's charitable projects," explained BPW President and first-timegolfer, Kathy Wagner, who played in the Scramble with the 'HotShots' sponsored by Moxam Industries.
Ms. Wagner further explained: "Due to the generosity of ourmajor sponsor, CIBC, all of the funds raised from the players'fees, tee and hole sponsorships and raffles will be used for BPW'scharitable projects which include our campaigns against domesticviolence, Legal Befrienders, educational scholarships for Caymanianwomen and other projects in support of women."
Raffles were drawn during the buffet presented by the Hyatt RegencyGrand Cayman after the Scramble. A diamond necklace donated byDiamonds Direct was won by Laura Brandon. A breadmaker donatedby AL Thompson's Home Depot was won by Carmen Manchester. A chandelierdonated by Robert Wood Lighting & Interiors Ltd. was won byCharmaine Richter. An antique millennium coin donated by IslandCompanies Ltd. was won by Kathy Wagner. A clock donated by ColumbianEmeralds International was won by Dawn Jones and a set of dishesdonated by Cox Lumber Co. was won by Lauren Nelson.
The Scramble was organized by the Business & ProfessionalWomen's Club in conjunction with BPWís 16 Days of ActivismCampaign against Gender Violence which continues on until December10.
