Robert Whittaker of LabourOffice receives Promotion

Robert Whittaker
Former Civil Servant of the Year and seniorlabour inspector, Mr. Robert Whittaker, has been promoted to thepost of assistant director of labour, with effect from 1 October2000.
A graduate of Triple C school, Mr. Whittaker joined the LabourDepartment in March 1991 as a labour inspector. In 1995 he waspromoted to senior labour inspector, charged with investigatingcomplaints, and violations of the Labour Law.
He has also represented the Labour Department on the ImmigrationBoard since1994, enabling the department to maintain a workingrelationship with the board. In 1998 Mr. Whittaker was voted CivilServant of the Year for the then Ministry of Community Affairs,an achievement that highlighted his commitment to service.
As assistant director of labour, Mr. Whittaker supervises a staffof six labour inspectors, reporting to the deputy director. Hewill maintain his role on the Immigration Board and continue tobe the key liaison between the Labour Department and the Ministryof Human Resources, under which the department now falls.
He explained that great emphasis will also be placed on supervisingon-site inspections within the work force, ensuring that companiesare complying with the Labour Law.
Mr. Whittaker expressed enthusiasm about the challenges of hisnew job: ìI am looking forward to the department workingin closer unison with companies in the Cayman Islands to maintaina healthy working environment for all,î he said.
Mr. Whittaker is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Albun Whittakerof George Town.
