Put off by the Ritz

Dear Sir,

I attended a meeting approximately two yearsago concerning the Dart Development Cayman Shores. The entireCPA (Central Planning Authority) Board was there, as was the NationalTrust. In fact, the Town Hall was filled to capacity with Caymaniansand residents protesting the destruction of mangroves to accommodatethe Cayman Shores Development.
One thing that has always remained with me was a comment fromthe audience at the end of the meeting, which was addressed tothe Chairman: "Gentlemen, if this project goes through, wecan only come to one conclusion -- you are all being paid off!!"This comment never reached the media, but the interesting thingwas the hearty applause that followed.
The present case of the CPA dealings with the Ritz Carlton broughtthis to mind. This was a serious accusation, of course, but Ihope that the new Minister for Planning will ensure that the CPAconducts its hearings in a forthright manner and that the newGovernment's transparency promise begins with them.
