The Winds of Change are BlowingGoodwill...
And nowhere has it become more apparentthan in the Cayman Islands. The season is ringing in with promisesof transition and great expectations.
There is a new Government whose tasks has been made all the morechallenging with the alphabet soup of the FATF, OECD, the G7 andthe EU - to name a few. The Cayman Islands, the little mouse thatroared, has had its share of battles and continue to negotiateon the world stage.
If our big neighbour to the North can overcome an embittered partisanelection which very nearly tore that country apart, then the CaymanIslands can surely come up with solutions for all - and hopefullythe peoples of this country will not be forgotten, as campaignpromises will be remembered.
Some of the issues are without a doubt the environment, self-sufficiency,affordable housing, immigration and the cost of living. The newgovernment has pledged to be open and accountable to the peopleand to be on a 'belt-tightening' course to bring the country'sfinances in order.
On the other hand, it is the people's duty to be watchful of theconduct of government, in a critical but constructive way. Theymust be willing to recognise the genuine efforts of a new order, and ready to offer their understanding in trying situations.
This is the season of forgiveness, of letting bygones be bygones, and with our strong roots in the Christian faith, Cayman's community- few can doubt, the most forgiving. Why put off to tomorrow, what can be do today - go to that person whose views are different, whether they are political or social, and accept that individualfor their differences.
The elderly and those less fortunate should not be forgotten.Where there is need, give generously. Be thankful for life's blessing.Take the time to be with your family and the Higher Power, whomade this season possible
