FATF Meeting a success

Negotiating Team hopefulof Cayman's removal from FATF backlist

The cases against Quarry Products Ltd. andits managing director, came to a close recently when all fourcharges were withdrawn personally against Mr. Christiansen.

Two of the four charges against the Companywere also withdrawn

Magistrate Grace Donald commented that she"was overjoyed" that the parties came to an agreement,The Company was fined a total of $8,000.

The Attorney General Mr. David Ballantyne,in one of his rare appearances as prosecutor, appeared on behalfof the Crown, explaining the charges.

In an earlier development during the administrationof former Governor Mr. John Owens, he overruled the previous ExcecutiveCouncil of Government, when it issued orders that Quarry Productsshould cease and decease in its daily operations.

Nevertheless, the crown proceeded with thecharges against the company and Mr. Christiansen. Mr. Ramon AlbergaQC, who was instructed by local attorney Steve McField, actedon behalf of Quarry Products Ltd and Mr. Christainsen.

Mr. Christainsen, a noted philantrophistin the Cayman Islands community said, "I am pleased thatthe matter has now come to a close and I now look forward to workingwith the current Government and the community, providing materialfor its continued meteoric rise in construction, the infrastructureand future development."
