DEH Gets NewHealth Officer

Mr Garfield Ellison is the new DistrictHealth officer at the Department of Environmental Health (DEH).

A graduate of the University of West Indies,he holds a Bachelor's Degree with upper class honours in EnvironmentalScience. He also received distinctions for diplomas earned inSpecialized Meat & Other Foods, and Public Health Inspection,and accreditation in Occupational Health and Safety.

"With five years as a public healthinspector for Jamaica's Ministry of Health and the Kingston andSt. Andrew Public Health Department, Garfield is well equippedfor his new position. We're pleased to have him," commentsthe Director of DEH, Ms Theresa Kuczynski.

Major aspects of Mr. Ellison's job includethe inspection of condominiums, beauty salons, barbershops andschools; initiation of community clean-up projects, investigatingnuisance complaints, and assisting with community training courses.

Referring to his new position Garfield says,"I'm very enthusiastic about the mandate of an environmentalhealth officer. My primary objective is to preserve the healthand welfare of the public at large by educating and enlighteningindividuals on all matters of environmental health and safety.We need to be vigilant in maintaining an environment that is conduciveto health."

Mr Ellison is married to Koram Ebanks andresides in West Bay.
