The Tortuga Rum Company celebrates 17 yearsin business in December 2001 and the company has said that inspite of setbacks in the world economy, the Grand Cayman operationis busier than ever.
The company has reported that the cruiseindustry's leading consumer publication, Porthole Cruise Magazine,recently named the Tortuga Rum Cake the winner of its 'Shore ThingAward for Best Island Attraction for 2001'. News of the prestigiousaward came as the company prepared to re-open Tortuga Duty FreeLiquors and Bakery next to the Cayman Turtle Farm, a popular tourstop for cruise ship shore excursions. The store had been closedsince November 4, when it was damaged extensively by storm surgefrom Hurricane Michelle.
