New Years Eve Kicks off the Quincentennial Celebrations

A New Years Eve "Thanks and Praise Celebration" will kick-off the year long Quincentennial Celebrations.

To be held at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex on December 31st, 2002 from 8pm until 2am, the event has been organized by the Cayman Ministers' Association with assistance from the Quincentennial Celebrations Office, as well as many other community partners. The Cayman Ministers' Association is very excited about the prospect of such a dynamic event. They expect it to even surpass the success of Y2KJ (Yes to King Jesus) which drew together some 10,000 people.

This is a family event that will comprise of four key elements:

· From 8pm there will be something for the younger members of the congregation; a youth band and a team of strongmen called "Total Surrender". They will perform amazing acts of strength similar to "Team Impact" who visited last year.

· From 10pm begins the main service of worship featuring an Island Wide Choir and Band, this is a special time of national blessing that will symbolize our community spirit and bonding. This will also be a time to reflect on the 500 years of struggle and joys of our people and country.

· At midnight there will be a spectacular fireworks display, the largest single fireworks display ever witnessed in the Cayman Islands. Sponsored by Cayman National, this will be truly spectacular and not to be missed.

· The remainder of the evening will feature performances by various local groups.
Another unique aspect of this event is that parallel plans are in place for a similar celebration on Cayman Brac organized by the Brac Churches. The event will represent the traditional elements of the Cayman Islands, as well as bring people together through this multicultural, multinational, and diversified event that will prove to be the perfect way to bring in such a very significant New Year.

Any Church, individual, business or other organization interested in becoming involved should contact the Cayman Ministers' Association at 949-2539 or the Quincentennial Office at 946-9992 or email info@cayman500.ky
