Leonard Ebanks Promoted to Vice-Chairman of Fidelity Bank (formerly British American)

Mr. Leonard N. Ebanks, President and CEO of British American Bank since 1980 has been named Vice-chairman of Fidelity Bank (Cayman) Limited.
Mr. Anwer J. Sunderji, Chairman and CEO of Fidelity Group of Companies, announced the promotion this week.
As vice-chairman, Mr. Ebanks assumes responsibility
for the bank's strategic planning, new products and business development.
His vast experience, leadership and communication skills will
be instrumental in the continued development and success of the
bank, as it meets the challenges of the future.
With 35 years experience in the banking industry, Mr. Ebanks began his career in 1967 with the Royal Bank of Canada.
In 1976, he achieved the distinction of being the first Caymanian appointed branch manager of a major international bank.
His academic work focused on Accounting and Modern Management Techniques in Banking and Finance, with special emphasis on Theories and Principles in Business Finance, plus attendance at The Chartered Institute of Bankers located at St. John's College in Cambridge, England.
As a leading banker and corporate citizen, Mr. Ebanks embraced public service, and his long list of Government and private sector appointments reflect a life dedicated to the community and his country.
As a founding member of the Cayman Islands Bankers Association, Mr. Ebanks was instrumental in marshalling the support of the Executive group of the Association in the Government's signing of exchange letters on narcotics activity in 1984, which was a prelude to the MLAT (Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty).
In 1986, the MLAT, signed between the United States and the United Kingdom (including the Cayman Islands) deals with issues geared toward improving the effectiveness of law enforcement authorities of both the U.S. and the Cayman Islands in the investigation, prosecution and suppression of crime through co-operation and mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.
Mr. Ebanks became a Justice of the Peace in 1987, and actively engages in matters affecting our youth, including a review of the Juvenile Laws, sitting regularly on the Juvenile Court Branch.
As the longest serving member of the Board of the Cayman Airways Ltd., Mr. Ebanks served as Chairman from 1992 to 1999, and Director from 1987.
Appointed as one of three Constitutional Review Commissioners in 2001, Mr. Ebanks represents the first time in the history of the Cayman Islands whereby a Caymanian was appointed to review the Constitution.
Other notable appointments include Trustee of the Public Services Pension Board for Government and Chairman of the Investment Committee.
Mr. Ebanks and his wife Carol Ann have two children, Tamara and Christopher.
