Indian cricket board calls emergency

BCCI president, Jagmohan Dalmiya

CALCUTTA, Dec 20 (AFP) - Indian cricket board president Jagmohan Dalmiya on Friday announced an emergency meeting for December 25 to discuss the controversy of player contracts for next year's World Cup.

The Indian cricket board was Monday to have a teleconference with the International Cricket Council (ICC) over the issue.

"Indian players are most sought after by business giants. They will be deprived if the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) agrees with the existing contract with ICC," Dalmia told reporters.

The row centers on restrictions barring players from advertising products that conflict with those of the official tournament sponsors, even if they have existing deals.

All White on the night as Nicol crashes

LONDON (AFP) - Celtic boss Martin O'Neill on Friday publicly backed three members of his squad who are at the centre of a nightclub rumpus.

The Scottish giants have been rocked by allegations that a photographer had his equipment damaged by Celtic players after he had taken pictures of them emerging from a Newcastle nightclub on Tuesday.

Joos Valgaeren, Johan Mjallby and Bobby Petta all spent the night in jail and were bailed without charge until March while Neil Lennon was released without charge after he too was arrested.
